Short Days, Long Nights

We've a few long nights over here to put it mildly. Most of the time, Giuliana is a happy and playful girl, but has been having moments of extreme restlessness mostly occurring all hours of the night. It has been routine lately for her to wake up within just a few hours of going to sleep--after being consoled, rocked, rubbed, whatever method works at that point! But the other night, I woke up to what I thought was a typical midnight waking, only to see THIS:

Yes, that is Giuliana, sitting up in her crib. Now you may not think that's unusual because she has been able to sit up for a few weeks. But what is unusual is the fact that she doesn't, or didn't, know how to sit up on her own from a laying down position before this point. I nearly jumped out of bed and ran straight into the wall (not before I somehow managed to snap this picture to send to Karl, because of course he was at work for this particular shenanigan) and hurried to her room. I rocked her to sleep again because I didn't want her to remember her new accomplishment and try it again, but who was I kidding? At 2:30am it was round two. I saw her sitting up again, only this time next to the front edge of the crib trying to pull herself up. There was no time for a photo. Is this what almost 7 month olds do??

So last night we adjusted the crib to the lowest possible setting so we don't have any more middle of the night scares when this one makes her first attempts at sneaking out. Because you know that's totally happening.

I guess with this never-ending teething experience, combined with all the new developmental leaps she is making, sleep is just really not high on her priority list. Well let me tell you Miss Giuliana, sleep is on the top of my list right there with a bottle of wine :)

We just hope she is able to get back on track after her teeth come in. It's terrible to see her so restless at night and not knowing what she wants other than just being held. Which is ok by me, even if it is every other hour of the night and I end up falling asleep on my keyboard the next day.
