Giuliana at 4 Years Old
Our Giuliana is 4 years old. How did that happen?? I truly cannot believe how fast the time has gone and the fact that next year she will start Transitional Kindergarten. I took her to an orientation type meeting for prospective students and it was surreal. She will be attending the same elementary school as I did and that is so special. We toured one of the classrooms that I was in and I just remembered so many things about that time. This year is sure to fly by and I'll be a mess when I have to drop her off every day for school.
In the meantime, her pre-k class is going very well and she comes home with new skills, new words, and new attitudes every day! She's quite the negotiator that it makes me wonder if she just likes to disagree with me for the sake of wanting to be right. I see a future boss lady in her future. Her class is working on letter/number recognition, days/months, and lots of arts and crafts. She has been tracing letters and numbers and the improvement every week is really amazing. I'll be blown away when she learns to spell and write her whole name.
At her 4 year checkup, she weighed 38 pounds and was 42 inches tall. She can now go on most of the rides at Disneyland. Yay! We'll be planning a trip in the future, after a disaster of a day we had when we went around her birthday.
She is incredibly independent, makes her bed everyday, dresses herself and is such a little person. She is the biggest help around the house especially with Ava. Ava is equally obsessed with her. We are so lucky that she loves her so much and is willing and wants to help in any way she can. I can't wait to see them in action when Ava gets a little older. The holidays are sure to be even more exciting this year as she starts to understand more of what that means (gifts mostly!) It is so cute to hear her talk about Santa and his elves, watch Polar Express on repeat, and tell us how many new costumes she wants so she can dress up all the time.
We couldn't be more proud of our girl, her persistence and that she always knows what she wants. Giuliana we love you so. Happy 4th birthday our love.
The Best Big Sister
Giuliana, my number 1 girl, the girl who made me a mom...where do I start? I am so proud of you in all you've done in the past three, almost four years. You are incredibly independent, smart, and have the biggest personality. You keep us on our toes with the attitude, sass, and ability to have full on conversations! You have embraced your role as big sister in the best way possible and we couldn't be more proud of you and so happy that you will have a sister to share your life with. The bond you'll have is like no other and I hope you cherish every second of it.
You helped me so much while I was pregnant and loved to kiss my belly, rub lotion on me, and give kisses to your sister. Now that she's here you want to help with everything. You like watching diaper changes ("let's see what kind of stuff we got in there!"), washing bottles, and singing your own songs to her. She's so lucky to have you!
You've been doing great in school and love to talk about your friends and pretend you're the teacher with all of your toys. It's hard to believe you will be four in just a couple of months. I have no idea where the years have gone. I want you to stay little forever and I wish I could freeze time. Your imagination and your innocence are something I never want you to lose. The world is a tough and crazy place and I'm not ready for you to grow up so fast. Thank you for being the best big sister to Ava, we love you so much!

Ava Reese Khoury, Our Newest Little Love
Our newest baby girl is here. Ava Reese Khoury was born on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at 4:10am weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces and 20 inches long. She has a full head of hair and a healthy set of lungs!
Ava's birth story is anything but lengthy since she came faster than I could have ever imagined. On July 11, at about 9pm I started to have some contractions but thought they were likely Braxton Hicks since I'd been having those at night off and on. They were short and consistent but not painful so I decided to go to bed. I ended up waking up almost every hour to go to the bathroom and noticed the contractions were still coming, but again they weren't painful so I'd go back to bed. At about 2am I could tell they were getting stronger but I could still breathe through them. I texted Karl since he was at work to tell him what was going on, but I still wasn't sure if it was the real deal or if my body was playing tricks on me. Since I didn't go in to a traditional labor scenario with Giuliana I wasn't exactly sure when true labor was really happening. Karl said he would wrap up work and head home so I decided to take a shower, wash my hair, and begin packing a few things. He didn't get home until about 3:15 and I was still blow drying my hair and doing my makeup when my water started to break and fluid was flowing. At that moment I knew it was going down and from then on the contractions got significantly more painful. I called my mom to come over and stay with G and she arrived at 3:50am. By this time I went from breathing through contractions to barely being able to move. The pain was unreal and contractions were coming so fast at this point I could barely catch my breath. We were already in the car when my mom pulled up and sped off as soon as we saw her. I don't even know how fast we drove or how many red lights we went through but I didn't care. I was so thankful it was the middle of the night and no one was on the road because had there been, we would have had a baby on the side of the road. Also, it was amazing that the hospital was close.
We parked right out front of the hospital, grabbed a wheel chair and Karl ran me through the hospital to labor and delivery where we woke up the sleeping receptionist. The triage nurses took me to an evaluation room but I knew something was happening. I tried to go to the bathroom but sure enough the rest of my water/fluid started to come out and I felt the urge to push. I don't think they were prepared for us! They checked me quickly and said I was fully dilated and ready to go. OMG. I mean, by the amount of pain I was in I figured I was close. I was begging for an epidural but they said I was probably just going to have the baby and I was not happy to hear that. I would have taken any relief at that point! But, we got to the delivery room and immediately started pushing. A few contractions and a lot of screams later, Ava was born at 4:10am, a full 20 minutes from the time we left the house. It. Was. Crazy. Everything happened so fast but before we knew it, she was here and all we could do was look at her and at each other and laugh that this really just happened. We couldn't believe it. Our family grew by one and our hearts doubled in size.
The last few months of pregnancy were long, long, long! Growing a human while working and chasing after an energetic toddler is no joke. I was lucky enough not to hit the big heat wave of the summer but it was definitely warming up there towards the end. I had another healthy pregnancy and the fastest delivery I could have ever imagined. And the minute I saw her face I fell in love all over again. Ava is the perfect addition to complete our family and we are all so excited to have her here. Giuliana has been such a great big sister and so eager to help with anything and everything--from singing her songs, washing bottles and helping to burp and rub her back. It is the sweetest! Initially I was worried how the age difference would affect them, but right now I am grateful that Giuliana is a little bit older, very independent, and most of all able to help us out! I hope that they continue to stay close and she wants to be a part of everything since it will be an adjustment for us all for a while.
It seems like Ava's been with us longer than 3 weeks but also like we just brought her home. We've been getting settled and trying to find a routine (if there is such a thing!) and dealing with a little bit of colic and gas. Other than that, she's been sleeping well and is a little snuggle bug that loves to be held. I'm looking forward to being home with them for the next couple of months and getting used to our life as a family of four!

Disney on Ice
We did it! We went to see Disney on Ice with you and it couldn't have been more perfect. You wore your princess Anna dress and were immediately in awe as soon as we walked into the venue. It was like Disney overload with characters, toys, cotton candy and a million kids all dressed up. We got your pictures taken with a Toy Story background and Queen Elsa before we sat down in our seats. The show itself was so much fun and kept you interested the whole time. The first part was Toy Story 3 and as all the characters were being introduced you would scream as each of them came out. We were dying!! It was so cute to see you so excited. They did a small skit of Little Mermaid and Cars and then it was the big Frozen finale which was a hit also. Overall it was a really great show and I think we will definitely take you again.
January Happenings
January is in full effect and we are getting back to reality after all of the holiday fun. Nothing has slowed us down, except for a few rainy days that we have thoroughly enjoyed! It seems like the past couple of months have given us more rainy days and weekends than I can remember. It is so nice to sit in the living room and watch the rain outside and be all bundled up. Those days call for hot chocolate with extra marshmallows and the chocolate mustache to go along with it. This month is filled with birthday celebrations, dinners, Emery's baptism, your first hockey game (!!) and I'm sure a whole bunch more in between.
We are thinking of making some changes to your schooling, which has been a bit stressful, sad, and exciting. The current school is not sure where they will be next year and that has not been sitting well with us. We do not want to be out of a place for you, among other things. We are looking for a new place that has more availability so that the days are consistent and the program fits better for all of us. All that matters to me is that you are happy, learning, and feel proud of yourself in school. I want you to succeed and I want you to be in the best environment you can be.
With the new start to the year, I am also looking forward to getting the house ready and doing some touch up things that have been on my to do list for far too long. I would love to add a couple of floating shelves to the kitchen above the sink, paint our bedrooms and update some furniture. I would really love to upgrade just about everything but maybe when we move into our next home. I can't believe we will be decorating another nursery and a big girl room. Where has the time gone?? I have so many ideas in my head I just need someone to make them a reality.
I think that's all for now, babe!
Happy New Year
Welcome 2017! Here it is, another new year. I have a feeling this one will be extra special....that's right--it's Baby Khoury round 2! This sweet little babe will join us in July and we could not be more excited! So far it has been another easy pregnancy, despite the few weeks of constantly feeling tired and drained. We are into the 12th week and feeling much better. We found out mid-November and finally shared the news with most of our family and friends on Christmas Eve. It has gone by so fast and I feel like we have so much left to do, even though it is still pretty early. You know me, planning mode all the time. The end of 2016 was an exciting one for us and we even made it to midnight this year so I'd say we are off to a great start of 2017. There are lots of babies coming this year and I think it is going to be so much fun for all of them to grow up together. That is one thing that makes me kind of sad when I think that Giuliana has basically been by herself for her whole life. I mean, she has always been able to entertain herself and has more personality than we know what to do with, but I do wish it hadn't taken us this long to have another baby and that she had grown up with some other kids. I am glad, however, that she is a little bit older and will be a huge help. By the time he or she gets here I think naps for her will be nonexistent so that might be tough. When she remembers, she loves to pick up my shirt and kiss my belly and say, "I love you baby." Heart explosion! Let's hope she is still that loving and kind when the kid actually gets here!
Over the next few months we will be planning and attending baby showers and scrambling to get our house baby ready again. Pulling out all the baby stuff is going to give me all the feels, I just know it!
Cheers to 2017!
